033: Addiction, Recovery, and the Power of Music with DJ Evie

This week on NST we bring you a very interesting, important, vulnerable conversation. We invited Evie, DJ at KEXP (local Seattle radio station) to share about her journey with music, KEXP, addiction and recovery.

This conversation begins light-hearted: reminiscing on Evie’s childhood, which was both seeped in Alternative/Rock n’ Roll music as well as hard-core conservative Christianity…an interesting mix of influences that lead to a very cool, robust music taste!

It really sounds like Evie’s ‘Dadio knows Audio’

As Evie’s musical journey continues, she shares how being a part of the music scene put her in contact to a lot of alcohol and drugs, fueling a lifestyle and habit that eventually lead to addiction.

As mentioned in the episode, Evie’s story really is a ‘cautionary tale’ which sheds light onto the darker side of addiction. After many ‘rock bottoms’ Evie explains how it took someone saying something to her and finding support through Music Cares to take the courageous step towards recovery and getting clean.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse or addiction we deeply encourage you to reach out.
